Décor Magazine Issue 2 - IN NEWSAGENCIES NOW!

Letter from the editor

I like holidays and travelling. I really do. I like food as well, so much so that I consume it up to three times a day. Fascinating, I know, but there are occasions when I don’t like holidays, travelling or food. And that is when they are sandwiched (pardon the pun) into almost every interior magazine you can find on the newsstand. What would these magazines look like if we pulled out the pages of unrelated “lifestyle” supplements? Well, they would be quite a bit smaller, that is for sure.

So for those of you who like being hijacked by features on Bora Bora or Aspen, I apologise; unfortunately for you, we have featured the work of some of Australia’s finest decorators in real homes all around Australia. No studio shots, no stylists. What you see is what you get. We have also pulled together the latest interior trend forecast information gathered from global trend fairs and local sources, the latest fabric ranges from the top Australian fabric houses, and some really great articles on how furnishing your house can save you money.

Décor Magazine has come about due to the resurgence in soft furnishings within Australia. For the last decade, minimalist architectural influences have exerted a style impost on this country, which has seen a dominance of hard surfaces, sharp refined lines, floor-to-ceiling glass and *gasp* lots of beige. Thankfully, for lovers of textiles and colour, the post-GFC landscape is one of soft furnishings, primary colours and a move away from the mass produced minimalist look towards quality and craftsmanship. And you can read all about it here (without the ads for the four wheel drive cars and the recipes from Masterchef contestants).
